This year I’m trying to be smarter about Bootsie’s school clothes. I want her to be a fashionable 1st grade girl, but at the same time I have to be smart about my purchases.
Earlier this year I tried working on a capsule wardrobe for myself and it seemed to get me farther than having a closet fill of clothes so my plan is to try to stick to a capsule wardrobe for my kids too.
A capsule wardrobe is a smaller list of clothes that you can mix and match and the idea is that you replace an item as they get warn out or grow out of the items, but you stick with the basic amount of items to keep your closet well organized and your budget low.
One site I visited when I was planning my own wardrobe said you should have:
- 9 tops
- 5 bottoms
- 5 shoes
I’m pretty sure that 5 pairs of shoes for my kids is too much so here is what I’d recommend working on as you start back to school:
- 7 shirts
- 3 tank tops
- 3 t-shirts
- 1 long sleeve shirt
- 5 bottoms
- 3 skirts
- 1 jean shorts
- 1 jeggings/jeans
- 2 dresses
- 3 shoes:
- 1 pair of sandals
- 1 pair of Crocs
- 1 pair of running shoes or tennis shoes
Since Bootsie hasn’t grown out of all the stuff I bought at the end of the school year. Remember Bootsie’s last day of school/graduation appropriate outfit? It was from Crazy 8! The items below are new additions to her school wardrobe. Now that the kids have outgrown the popular baby brands, I’ve chosen to buy from Crazy 8 because they have such great prices for items that last better than other brands. They have great deals pretty much every day of the year and if you sign up for their email list they often send you coupons to save even more money on your purchases.
